Speaker Deadlines
Presentation Time Slots Verified   July 31
Your presentation date and time will be finalized by July 31. Be sure to check the full conference schedule with complete session assignments on the FOCUS website. If you have a known conflict with one of the conference dates (October 6-9), please communicate it to speakers@mcafee.com ASAP so that we can accommodate you.

Hotel Reservations Deadline   September 2
The deadline for discounted hotel rates is September 2. The Palazzo Resort-Hotel-Casino is offering special discounts to conference attendees. For hotel rates and contact information, visit the Accommodations page. To secure the special conference rate, be sure to mention McAfee and FOCUS when making your reservation. Reservations made after September 2 will be based on space availability and may be billed at the prevailing hotel room rate. Space is limited, so secure your accommodations early.

Speaker Registration Deadline   September 2
Speaker registration is now open. You will receive an email with detailed registration instructions. All speakers are encouraged to sign up as soon as possible and no later than September 2.

As a breakout session speaker, your registration fee is waived.* If you mistakenly sign up for the conference through attendee registration and pay the registration fee, contact 866.925.5707 or speakers@mcafee.com to receive a full refund.

Please note: Co-presenters are not eligible for complimentary registration. Each co-presenter must individually register for the conference on the FOCUS website and pay the applicable attendee rate.

* Speakers are responsible for travel costs, hotel fees, and all other expenses.

Submission Deadline   September 8 – September 22
Because all FOCUS presentations must be reviewed and approved by McAfee, the deadline to submit your draft presentation is September 8, and final presentations must be submitted by September 22. In preparing to meet these deadlines, be sure to account for internal approvals (legal, marcom, etc.) that may be required by your company. If you are unable to meet these deadlines, you will be in jeopardy of losing your speaking slot.

Submitting Presentations: Send draft and completed presentations to Tissa Richards at speakers@mcafee.com.

Speaker Orientation Reception   October 6
All FOCUS speakers are required to attend the speaker orientation reception. This session will offer you an opportunity to verify any last minute details about your presentation and speaker logistics, as well as meet your co-presenters, if applicable.

Presentation Guidelines
All speakers will receive a 2-3 slide outline from the track / session owner or panel moderator to guide you in drafting your presentation. When creating your presentation, remember to follow these important guidelines.

General Content Guidelines: FOCUS sessions are 60 minutes in length. Each presentation should be approximately 45 minutes, with time for questions and answers. Remember that you will be presenting to current McAfee customers, and your presentation should educate your audience on technologies and best practices that will benefit them most. Be sure to address one or more of the following business benefits:
• Accurate threat detection and response
• Demonstrating and measuring compliance
• Improved patch management
• Improving productivity
• Improving response times
• Improving threat correlation
• Lower management costs
• Minimizing human error
• Minimizing the impact of new regulations
• Raising operational efficiency
• Reducing audit costs
• Reducing complexity
• Reducing user disruption
• Streamlining and automating manual processes
• Systematic policy enforcement

Tracks: Ideally, your presentation should speak to the track your presentation has been assigned. Visit the Breakout Sessions page to view the conference track descriptions.

Technical Level: The technical level of your presentation will be communicated to you, and will fall under one of these technical levels:

Business / Management — Audience will largely be business users and decision makers. Presentation should be business-oriented and include a description of a business problem, the previous way of addressing this problem, how a solution was applied to address the issue, benefits derived, etc.

Somewhat Technical — Audience will be varied and include senior IT professionals. Presentation should cover a business problem, challenges faced from a business / technical perspective, products that comprise the solution, how the solution is being used, high-level implementation details, and benefits received. Some use of screenshots and high-level diagrams is appropriate.

Technical — Audience will be technical users, developers, and administrators familiar with various degrees of security tools and features. Presentation should include a description of a business problem, an explanation of the situation before and after implementing a solution, a technical approach, lessons learned, and benefits realized. It is appropriate to include code snippets, detailed architectural diagrams, etc.

Allotted Time: Your presentation time is 45 minutes, with additional time for questions and answers. Because attendees value speaker’s experience and expertise, you will find the Q&A portion of your session to be highly interactive.

Use the FOCUS 09 Presentation Template: All presentations must be created using the FOCUS 09 PowerPoint template. You will receive your presentation outline on this template. Presentations created in any other format will not be accepted. Also, remember to submit your presentation for review by September 8.
